Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man, a member of the Sanhedrin, and a disciple of Jesus.
He went to Pilate and begged for the body of Jesus. He and Nicodemus lowered Jesus from the cross and prepared the body for burial. Joseph buried Jesus in his own tomb. He is described as a good and righteous man, having had the courage to cast a dissenting vote in the Sanhedrin’s plans against Jesus.
