We only know that Simeon was a righteous man who lived in the temple, praying daily for the Messiah. He is given a very brief moment in the Gospel of Luke 2: 25-35 when Jesus is brought to the temple by his parents to fulfill the requirements of the laws of Moses. The Holy Spirit has told him that he will not die till he has seen God’s anointed. When Simeon takes Jesus in his arms he speaks a prayer of blessing and prophecy.
