Simon the Pharisee

Osama Masri

Jesus moved in some very influential circles.  Simon very much wanted to show off his interesting guest but his arrogance was also on display.

It is important to note that Simon was curious about Jesus but didn’t hold him in great esteem because he didn’t offer water so he could wash his feet, because most people either went barefoot or wore sandals and would come in the house with very dusty feet.  This was a very big discourtesy.  He didn’t greet Jesus with a kiss on the cheek, and if he thought Jesus was a special guest he might have had sweet-smelling olive oil poured on his head.
